You may have noticed that some of my songs are religious or spiritual in nature. Even more songs, though less overt, use allusions to a power greater that ourselves. In fact, I am often surprised at how often such allusions seem to creep into my lyrics. Maybe one day, I’ll count them all up.
“Carry You Away” is one of the more direct, overt ones. It’s about what might happen when you die. The antecedents for this song are “Swing Low Sweet Chariot” and “Will the Circle be Unbroken.”
A simple little song that always comforts my anxious soul whenever I think to play it for myself.
Perhaps it will do the same for you.
The above is just me and my guitar.
Carry You Away
it’s not how fast you run
or what you’re running from
that’s gonna to carry you away
it’s not how far you’ve come
or what you’ve done
that gonna to carry you away
(refrain):
it’s going to be a long ride home
and you’re gonna to see everyone you know
the day they carry you away
(repeat 2,1,refrain)
(bridge):
we’ll be carried on angels’ wings
when all is suddenly made right
all is forgiven
oh what a glorious ride
(repeat)
